about me

Anya Arax Meyer has a Master of Library Science (MLS) specializing in technology, children's services, education and the arts as well as a Bachelor of Arts (BA) with a Personally Designed Major combining anthropology, the arts, dance, and the humanities. Anya loves helping students of all ages learn and grow and focuses her work on cultural studies and arts integration techniques. She earned a Certificate from the University of Maryland in Teacher Leadership & Learning through Arts Integration and is also a certified AcroYoga teacher, a certified Yoga Teacher and a multimedia visual artist. Anya teaches dance, yoga, acrobatics, AcroYoga, and gymnastics throughout the United States. She is currently based in the Washington, DC area.

As a Librarian & program manager by day and an acrobat & yoga teacher by night I pledge to build peace and help students and the community through arts integration; literacy education; sharing books, online resources & graphic novels; teaching movement; and connecting the world together through the arts, education and positive communication.

Library & Program Management services

My focus is on creating inclusive programs focused on literacy, the arts, science, education, and information technology.

I've tailored Library programs to meet community and individual patron needs in 6 different schools.

After reviewing community needs, I design and teach library media center lessons integrating literacy and the arts.

Arts Integration

My focus is on arts integration techniques, somatic studies, mindfulness and community building.

Student work from my lessons was featured at the internationally renowned Phillips Collection as well as in local art exhibits.

I hold a Certificate in Teaching Leadership and Learning through Arts Integration.

I have experience designing and implementing arts, movement and mindfulness workshops, classes and events throughout the United States.

ArtS & Humanities

Arts, Literature and the Humanities make the world shine. They bring insight and connection to creators, participants, readers and viewers. They connect us to each other.

I created my undergraduate degree focusing on researching the impact of the arts on culture through the multiple lenses of anthropology, literature, the humanities and various art forms including visual art and dance.

Deciding to create and design the focus of my studies has shaped my lifelong pursuit of intellectual growth and ongoing curiosity about the world.

Mindfulness

One of my favorite quotes is "I shut my eyes in order to see." Paul Gauguin is credited with this insightful inspiration. Mindfulness practice has been a bedrock in my personal and intellectual growth. Through the physical practice of yoga, meditation and writing I have be able to overcome many obstacles. Creating a calm and safe space helps individuals, communities and ultimately the world.

Restorative Practices

Relationship building and restoring trust in each other is a fundamental need in our communities, organizations and companies. Restorative practices are a key in the process to help build positive relationships, foster healthy communication skills, heal trauma and create peaceful communities.
